When our basic need comes in abundance..FLOOD!

To all ye readers.. History repeats itself.. The 2005 flood in Alor Star re-visited us.. only it got bigger, better and stronger this time round.. This time it entered the safety of my house, and forced us all into a spring clean..

Kata-kata hikmat oleh George Santayana (ahli falsafah)
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"
(The life of Reason, Volume 1:1905)

These is what u will see on every page of each new chapter in our Sejarah text books.. Guess many policy makers dont get it.. After the first flood, drains are still clogged with rubbish, filth and PLANTS!.. drainage systems are not improved, future preventive measures were not taken and the list goes on. Not yet mentioning the double tracking system thats as high as a fort which crosses right in the middle of town..Without warning whatsoever, drains the rivers just overflow.. Elect just went out and water pipes went dry..

Now that i look back, i thank God i had that experience.. It has been 5 years since i saw so many of my neighbors.. Its been 5 years since i see ppl just stop and made friends by the road.. Hard times really do bring ppl together..most of the times.. Its because when we then realize that we are not almighty and all-independent..

Everyone got trapped in the house for 4 to 5 days! dad and mum was on a disaster-declared-holiday.. And i can say, it was fun at home.. Everyone got lame-er..all the jokes were spilling out..everyone had to carry and move something.. and i got to wear a Pua-Chu-Kang-Boots in my house! the fun doesnt stop there.. but i shall stop it here.. bad and not so fun times, were there too.. mum too fussy about cleanliness in a FLOOD!, it got rather depressing after awhile, different ideas in what to do at the moment, not being able to study - cost me a screw up in PA paper- and the late night sleeps cos i was on "night" shift.. not to watch for robers.. but to watch for water =_=

It was also nice to c ppl helping out.. The Buddhist association, church bodies, wanita UMNO, neighbors and many more.. We got clean water, rice, buns, fried mee and...LOTS of my pict taken.. For everything i went out to take, i can hear the camera go 100rounds a minute in clicks.. in all these help, i was thinking to myself.. everyone is helping.. Christians, Buddhists, Muslims and Indians alike.. So, what separates the Christians from others? everyone is helping.. everyone is doing good. But i realized something.. Only the church bodies did not come in a "uniform" or "chosen attire".. Others wanted to be known..wanted people to noe its THEY who helped.. but the Christians, they just helped.. fyi, i noe cos they were from churches i noe.. Plus, they did not take picts of me accepting anything..

Now, the aftermath.. cleaning up.. The rubbish pile everywhere seems to get higher and bigger.. No one is collecting them.. Government workers and private alike are queuing up in police stations to do a report to get an official leave. and, the market folks just cant stop talking about it.. I've got so much more to say.. but i should stop..
